Following up on the previous post, I continue the Photo of the Month series with a collection of January 2020, where I capture my wandering through some of Valinhos neighbours.

Among the biggest changes from last month’s:

  • Different camera: last month I clicked with a Nikkon D3300 and its standard lens, whereas this month it all comes from a Samsung Galaxy S10e. There are some photos I took last month that are part of today’s post.
  • Least effort: this month, I wandered randomly through the city streets on a single occasion. I have also used very little time to research and edit the raw photos.

Next, a glimpse of my neighborhood, mostly.

The Best - Semaphore and Cracked Tree

The tree grew split in half so the leafs don’t damage the power lines

I choose this as the best because of the way the cracked tree feels. Also because of the feel of 3D in the composition: semaphore and tree in the foreground, avenue in the middle, buildings in the background.

Avenida dos Esportes

Stream on Avenida dos Esportes

A classic city place. Seen from one of the bridges that cross the stream whose name I wasn’t able to find out even with the help of Google Maps and the section about hydrography on https://www.daev.org.br/informacoessobrevalinhos.

Pedestrian lane

Pedestrian pavement that leads to the Brasil 500 Anos square.

Tall grass

Tall grass due to the frequent January summer rainstorms. At this time of the year, at least in the past two years, the grass took over a big portion of the city.

Trash bin overflow

It is nice to see the population making good use of the public trash bins. Unfortunately, this one was overflowing.

More from the Neighborhood

Panoramic view from Valinhos towards Itatiba

Panoramic view taken from the central region, looking to the north, northeast and east. To the left, old blue Rigesa building; to the center right, behind the shed, the Parque dos Pássaros apartment complex; in the center background, a little to the right, Casinha do Figo and the road to Itatiba; in the background to the left, DAEV’s water tank.

Cobblestone street with purple flower trees

A bit plain photo. The goal was to let the tree in the first plane and the blue wall leading to the Beetle at the end. I missed something.

Letter, maganize, and newspaper inbox

Are letter, maganize, and newspaper in a physical medium still a thing?

The Little Plants

Little red-orange flowers

Taking flower pictures is fun. I only realized the ants after a big zoom in, during post processing.

Freezing Motion

Water flowing into sewer

Last month, I focused on trying to capture the “bride’s dress”. This time, given this random chance, I trained capturing a still sharp image, without movement.

Avenida Atlântica Boardwalk - Caiobá / PR

Avenida Atlântica in Caiobá/PR

This is from last month. Avenida Atlântica (note from translator: ocean avenue) from the balneary of Caiobá, in Matinhos / PR beach.

Dog

Napoleão

This is my dog. Or, thinking twice, from the family. Whenever I try to take pics of him, as a mere beginner, I face a good dose of challenge. Either the dog is too dark, or the background is overexposed. But let’s keep trying. With the post-processing concepts I’m learning, photos get slightly more decent.

May this month’s clicks give more sense to my relationship with the city that seduces me bit by bit. May the attentive look for good pictures allow me to see the hidden beauty in the landscapes of my daily life.
